PIANO FOR SINGERS AND ARTISTS

Understand the music. Accompany your voice. Create with greater freedom.

Piano and keyboard  lessons at Melodies Voice Academy are designed for singers, songwriters and developing artists who want to use the keyboard as a practical creative tool.

You do not need to become a classical pianist before the piano can become useful to you. From the beginning, your lessons connect healthy playing technique and essential musicianship to the songs you want to sing, write and perform.

Ages 7-Adult

PIANO CAN CHANGE HOW YOU HEAR MUSIC

The keyboard makes the relationships between notes, chords and keys visible. When singers understand those relationships, they gain more than instrumental ability.

They can find their starting pitch.

They can recognize and build chords.

They can change a song’s key.

They can communicate more clearly with other musicians.

They can develop an original idea without waiting for someone else to play it.

At MVA, piano is not treated as an unrelated second subject. It becomes part of the singer’s complete artistic development.

WHAT YOU CAN LEARN

ACCOMPANY YOURSELF

Learn chord shapes, inversions, rhythmic patterns and coordination strategies that allow your hands to support your voice instead of competing with it.

WRITE AND DEVELOP SONGS

Use the keyboard to explore melodies, build chord progressions, shape song sections and hear harmonic possibilities more clearly.

UNDERSTAND KEYS AND HARMONY

Develop a practical understanding of scales, chords, intervals, keys and transposition through the music you are actively learning.

READ THE MUSIC YOU NEED

Learn to use chord charts, lead sheets and other practical notation without making traditional note reading the only measure of musical ability.

CREATE YOUR OWN ARRANGEMENTS

Explore accompaniment textures, chord voicings, dynamics and rhythmic choices that help a song sound intentional and complete.

BECOME A MORE INDEPENDENT ARTIST

Use the piano to warm up, practice vocal music, find pitches, rehearse harmonies, communicate with collaborators and prepare for performances or recording sessions.

LESSONS MAY INCLUDE

  • Keyboard geography and healthy playing coordination

  • Common chord progressions

  • Reading chord charts and lead sheets

  • Songwriting, arranging and performance preparation

  • Major and minor chords

  • Rhythm, groove and accompaniment patterns

  • Coordinating singing with playing

  • Chord inversions and smooth transitions

START WITH AN ASSESSMENT

Your first step is a focused assessment with an MVA teacher.

We will discuss your experience, musical goals, preferred artists and the skills you most want to develop. When applicable, we will listen to you sing and play, explore a few foundational concepts and determine the most useful place to begin.

You will leave with a personalized growth plan outlining:

  • The strengths you can build upon

  • Your most important starting priority

  • Practical recommendations for your first month

  • The MVA lesson or program pathway we recommend

Every singer has a muse. Piano gives you another way to hear what yours is trying to say.
