When I was a little girl, I spent hours in my backyard making up songs and singing them to the robins on the power lines, with the squares of grass below serving as my stage. In that backyard, I was alone, completely free, and I loved every minute of it. Nobody was judging me. Nobody was deciding whether I was good enough. Singing was simply joy.
