ARTIST DEVELOPMENT AT MVA
Turn your ideas into songs — and your songs into something real.
Artist Development is MVA’s October–May creative program for singers who want to write, perform, record, and grow into more complete artists.
Through weekly songwriting and artist-development classes, students develop original work, strengthen their musicianship, explore their artistic identity, and learn what it takes to move a song from first idea to finished performance and recording.

DEVELOP THE ARTIST
The song is only part of the work.
Artist Development is not simply a class about how to write lyrics and chords.
Students learn how to develop an idea, revise their work, make stronger musical choices, rehearse with intention, communicate through performance, prepare for the studio, and understand more clearly who they are becoming as artists.
The goal is not to make everyone write the same kind of music.
It is to give each artist the tools, structure, feedback, and real-world experiences to create work that feels genuinely their own.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CALL YOURSELF A SONGWRITER YET
You just need something you want to say.
Some students come to Artist Development already writing songs.
Others arrive with a melody, a lyric, a journal full of ideas — or simply the feeling that they want to create something of their own.
You do not need a finished song or previous recording experience to begin.
MVA helps you build the skills from wherever you are.
A season built around making real work.
